Lifeguard Recertification

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Program provides excellent training to help lifeguards prevent, protect, and respond to aquatic emergencies. Our course content is updated with the latest science and best practices, validated by the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council.

Lifeguard Recertification Options

The Lifeguard Recertification course is designed to refresh your knowledge and skills, ensuring you remain prepared for any situation in the water. Upon successful completion, your certification will be renewed for another two years. ​​

Recertification Requirements

  • You must have a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.

  • Your certification must have expired no more than 30 days.

  • During the course, you will have the opportunity to review and practice skills.

  • Participants must pass a final written test and complete three final skill assessments.

Final Skill Assessments

The following skill assessments are required to complete the course:

Certifications Awarded

Upon successful completion of the Lifeguarding Recertification course, you will receive one of the following American Red Cross certificates, depending on the course taken:

  • Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid

  • Shallow Water Lifeguarding (Up to 5, 6, or 7 feet)

  • Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding (Up to 3 feet)

  • Waterfront Skills

  • Waterpark Skills
