First Aid/CPR/AED
Certification Requirements
The American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program is designed to help participants recognize and respond to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies. This program teaches the knowledge and skills needed to provide immediate care to an injured or ill person when minutes matter, and to decide when advanced medical care is needed. It offers courses in traditional classroom or blended learning (online with instructor-led skill sessions) formats, along with optional skill boosts to meet diverse training needs.
Program Prerequisites

Core Courses: No prerequisites for the core courses in the First Aid/CPR/AED r.21 program.

Skill Boost Prerequisites: Participants must have a valid, current certification in First Aid (including FA/CPR/AED, Lifeguarding, EMR, RTE, etc.) to take an optional Skill Boost.
Learning Objectives
In this program, participants will learn how to:

Recognize emergencies and confidently respond.

Lower infection risks while providing care.

Understand legal concepts such as consent.

Follow emergency action steps: CHECK—CALL—CARE.

Recognize when to call 9-1-1 or other emergency numbers.

Perform high-quality CPR and use an AED for cardiac arrest victims.

Provide first aid for choking and various sudden illnesses like shock, asthma attacks, and heart attacks.

Control life-threatening bleeding and apply tourniquets.

Treat injuries and environmental illnesses, including burns, head, neck, and spinal injuries, heat stroke, hypothermia, and poison exposure.
